DAY 24 AVON, NC TO OCRACOKE ISLAND, NC

10/12/2013

40 Miles today   1085 Total miles
We had an early start this morning so we could make the 10:00 am ferry to Ocracoke Island. We had a little head wind but no rain. We continue to see the remnants of the northeaster that went through the Outer Banks. There was a lot of water and sand on the roads.

Once we got off the ferry it was an amazingly peaceful ride. There is basically no traffic except when the ferry docks every hour. We are still in the National Park Service area so we see lots of signs that things are closed.

We met a couple at breakfast and another on the ferry that were very interested in our ride and we were able to share with them why we were riding and give them a card to follow us online. We have met some wonderful people along our route.

Roads we rode on today...notice the water still in many places and the deer on the side of the road
