Due to the cold Floridian weather we have begun our training on spin bikes which is about as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist (no offense to dentist).

As the weather warms, we will hit the road 3-4 times a week as we train for a 7 day bike ride over on the east coast. Click Here to for more information about the ride.

7 weeks to go............

We have been training for the last 4-6 weeks but the rain and wind has made it a little challenging. We have the always necessary "Excel Training Spreadsheet" that Jim must have.  The weather has made Jim alter his schedule which is fun to watch. (:

We are excited to once again be blessed to ride our bicycles to raise funds for the students in our church and in our community as well. We have seen how much a week at camp can change a student and even though we are getting older, that encourages us to keep riding.

Please help us make a difference in the lives of these young people. It costs $175 to attend the camp and if you could sponsor a student, that would be awesome. However, anything you could do would make a difference. You can donate on our home page.
A few pictures of some rides we have done in training.
You can find information on this years ride at Bike Florida.

We have been training for 6 weeks and have logged almost 500 miles. Beth and I will be riding in a 7 day, 400 mile bike ride in Northwest Florida to raise money to send students to summer camp who cannot afford the cost on their own. It is a life changing week of fun, fellowship, and spiritual growth. Lives are impacted and changed.

We have been riding in all over - Plant City, Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Gulfport, the beaches, Dunnellon, all over.
Please help us to help the kids

DAY 50 MARATHON, FL TO KEY WEST, FL

55 Miles today   2286 Total miles
Our last day. The wind was favorable today. The ride over the seven mile bridge was one of the prettiest rides of the whole trip. The bridge is long and took us about 45 minutes to ride it. The view is worth the ride.
We had a lot of road construction and often both sides of the road were torn up. It was not bicycle friendly.
It was a very hot day and took us longer than we would have liked.

We ate lunch at another of our favorite places, Mangrove Mama's. It is mile marker 20 and a great place to eat.

We made it to the Southernmost Point around 2:00 and there were lots of people in line to get their pictures taken so we got in line.

Key West was packed due to Powerboat races going on and it is a busy time of the year.
We stayed at our favorite place to stay, The Pilot House, and ate dinner at our favorite restaurant, Blue Heaven, to celebrate.

We spent Friday relaxing and walking around until we caught the ferry from Key West to Fort Myers, where our son, Jason and his family,  brought our car to us.

The ferry ride was very rough and they handed out lots of barf bags. We had prepared with Dramamine ahead of time so we were good.

We got home at 1:15 am and we were greeted by two very happy doggies.

It is good to be home.

DAY 49 KEY LARGO, FL TO MARATHON, FL

54 Miles today   2231 Total miles
A nice ride with an awesome tailwind. We did have to dodge the rain a couple times but no big deal. Only a little more than 100 miles to go.  We are familiar with the Key Largo to Key West ride as we have done it twice before.   You really appreciate the beauty of the Keys when travelling on a bike.

We stopped at a bike shop, Backcountry Cowboy, to borrow an air pump and blow up our tires. We met the owners, Kristi and JC. They could not have been more helpful. Very nice folks.

We were staying with Jerry, a good friend of ours, who was nice enough to put us up and feed us lobster and steak. It was awesome. He has a beautiful home in Marathon on the water. He could not have been more accommodating.

We will be in Key West tomorrow – the last day of riding. Having mixed emotions – wanting to finish and not wanting to stop.

DAY 48 FLORIDA CITY, FL TO KEY LARGO, FL

11/5/2013

28 Miles today   2177 Total miles
A short ride today of only 28 miles but they were difficult to say the least. The wind was unreal – 23 mph with gusts over 30. It was coming from the east and we were riding south so it was a cross wind. We were on the highway from Florida City/Homestead to Key Largo with nothing to shield us from the wind. We walked over 2 miles (took almost an hour) on the road & over a big bridge when we did not feel it was safe to stay on the bikes. When we approached Key Largo we began to ride west and the wind was behind us and it was awesome. We rode faster than we have ridden the whole trip.

We got into the hotel around lunch time and had a great lunch at Mrs. Macs – great place to eat. This is our 3rd time riding from Key Largo to Key West so we have some favorite places we like to eat. We will ride to Marathon tomorrow which is about 50 miles and stay with a good friend of ours, Jerry Wynn, who was kind enough to put us up for the night. We are looking forward to the east wind tomorrow as it is supposed to be a strong as it was today. As long as the wind is at our backs or in our face, we can ride safely. It’s the cross wind you have to watch out for.
